Hi all,
I’m using Kodi android V.21 for my tv. I have a mkv file with Dolby TrueHD Atmos soundtrack. My TV is connected to a 7.1 channel soundbar setup via ARC.
As my TV does not support HDMI 2.1, it does not support eARC unfortunately, so only ARC.
So if I play the mkv, the soundbar indicates that the sound is Stereo PCM. (Which I assume is a 2 channel downmix of the Atmos track) I think this happens because ARC cannot passthrough Doby TrueHD Atmos soundtrack…although I’m not entirely sure if that is the case. It seems Kodi cannot downmix to a Dolby Digital 5.1 or something alike which would be a better experience.
I read on a forum that there is a fix that seems to solve this. To put the channels to 2.0 in the Kodi system settings. Once I did this…indeed, when I play the MKV all of a sudden the soundbar indicates Dolby Digital Plus.
So my question is: does Kodi indeed through this setting output dolby digital plus 5.1 audio via ARC if the channels are put to 2.0? And is this a better option than Stereo PCM?
Only problem is that DTS tracks don’t play well with the 2.0 channel setting…so this seems only to work with Dolby soundtracks and in particular if you have a Dlby TrueHD /Atmos track.
Is there another way to get this output and still be able to play DTS tracks aswel?
Thanks much,
Subbi
