UPDATE: Per forum posts VLC media player’s ability to stream YouTube videos is broken and fixing it isn’t high on the VLC developers list of priorities (partly due to the ongoing need for updated fixes to keep up with YT’s never ending code changes).
My solution will be to use one of the Firefox browser video downloader extensions to save YT videos to an external hard drive that’s connected to my PC, after which aforementioned videos can be played directly from the external drive.
