VLC media player Feature Requests • 3D display enhancement

VLC is very full featured, almost like a Swiss army knife, but it lacks one feature, 3D. While 3D may seem to some be dead, it has a dedicated group of aficionados and Apple is dabbling in the 3D format. So support for a few 3D formats would be fairly easy and appreciated. Anaglyph, red/cyan images for R&L is supported by YouTube. Alternate horizontal or vertical single pixel wide strips for L&R is also fairly simple, but requires exact placement with one eye image always on either the even or odd lines no matter how the window is moved. There is also a compatible MP4 format which plays in 2D, but can be decoded for 3D and that seems to be what is used for 3D Blu-Rays. There is also an MP4 tag which is used by YouTube and some 3D video players to switch to 3D display. Along with this some third party 3D developers have created a suffix to denote 3D formats such as -LR for LEFT right side by side for L on the right side of the frame, -RL for R on the L side of the frame SBS, -LRQ for RL SBS with 2x horizontal compression…
