Valid SoundFont files for VLC are .SF2 or .SF3 .
Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show Settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs -> Audio Codecs -> FluidSynth
Then on the right panel browse to the SoundFont file of your choice.
When done, don’t forget to click on the Save button at the bottom, then exit and restart VLC for the setting to take effect.
