Can't see time remaining during Playback – Kodi Android

I have a default install of Kodi on an Android device and I am trying to add Time Remaining to the display.

I have searched the forum and can see that I need to add this to Variables.xml, however, I don’t see Variables.xml in any of the suggested locations.
I tried adding it, but I don’t see any difference.

Any help would be appreciated.
