Database Question with FTV

Hi,

I’ve been running Kodi since the old xbmc/xbox days. After doing a few dedicated HTPCs, I’m now settled upon FTVs and really enjoying them!

I have a fairly large collection of movies and TV shows that are on a Synology NAS. Movies are in the Movies folder and TV shows are in their own subfolders by show, in the TV folder. Since I have multiple FTVs, with limited storage, I use media companion to download all of the posters, fanart, etc which is stored on the server as well.

Setting up a new device, I would go to Videos, Files, Add Videos, then I navigate to those respective folders and form then on, they are available to me. I don’t do the content scraping from within Kodi because the databases are too big, and it seems better to have one central database instead of multiple databases that might not be the same.

Now the problems.
1. Using this method, I never see Movies under the Movies menu or TV Shows under the TV Shows menu (if it’s enabled), which seems like it would be more intuitive and accessible.

2. The database doesn’t seem to work normally, for instance if I highlight an actor and click on them, it doesn’t show me all of the other movies they are in, only the one movie I’m on.

3. If I do get movie information, it seems to pull it from the internet, not my local database.

What should I be doing differently? Is there a way to have a small light local database that works in conjunction with the heavier data from the server database? Is there something I should be doing differently on Media Companion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
